WooHOOO!!,” tweeted Mike Welsh, “Part 2, I’m not sure yet.”

The Twilight star was mobbed by scores of Cullen fans while out on a gentle jaunt in gay Paris. Luckily for them, rather than hoof it in the other direction (as we would probably have done), Ashley stopped to sign autographs before continuing on her merry way. Nice girl…

Pushing for more information, our tipster said “It’s too early to talk casting, and everything we’re hearing is just speculation or off a wish list, but I don’t believe they plan on using the original actress,Jodelle Ferland, for the spin-off film.
Not the movie series… The book series.

Back when the first Twilight film came out, I was disappointed in the casting of the vampiric Cullen family. I had imagined impossibly beautiful and yet strange-looking creatures with a mysterious, otherworldly edge. Instead, I got Hollywood actors with too much white makeup on their faces.

But now, improbably, the Fall 2010 Burberry ad campaign is exactly what I wanted to see on the big screen. Click through to see more of the ads, and tell me if you agree.

The ‘Winter’s Bone’ actress – who was recently cast as shapeshifter Mystique in ‘X-Men: First Class – claims she wants a slower career pace than the British hunk, best known for his role as Edward Cullen in ‘The Twilight Saga’.

The 20-year-old beauty said: “I don’t really lie in bed thinking, ‘One day I’ll become a superstar.’ Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But I don’t think that’s my career path. Mine will be more of a slower build. I think it would be surreal if it was like Robert Pattinson – all of a sudden you wake up and people are screaming. But I’ve been working for a while, so when you start to become successful, it’s not like all of a sudden going, ‘What’s going on? Why does this person recognise me?’ It is a weird industry anyway – so I fit in perfectly.”

Babble: Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg tells Hollywoodscoop that the scene, which is, as yet, unwritten, will be graphic and intense and probably very bloody. Which? Fine, it’s a vampire movie, I suppose it should be kind of bloody. Plus, artist integrity means they’ll have to stick to the unconventional c-section and all.

But I know I’m not alone in having movie and TV birth scene fatigue. Sure, I love a good, dramatic scene where everyone’s teetering on the precipice of life and death, where emotions run high and time is of the essence. But three very uneventful births in, the more dramatic and life-or-death and screechy a birth scene, the more I’m prone to just laugh and laugh.

And for a movie that gobs of teen girls will see, I wish each ticket would come with some kind of disclaimer saying, “don’t bury the birth scene in the recesses of your mind! It’s fiction! This is now how most (any?) births actually transpire!”

Like any nice, middle-class American girl, I was never witness to a birth until it was me pushing the kid out. How rather uneventful the whole incident was (except for the part where someone hands you a whole ‘nother human life and all). So little screaming. So many hours sitting quietly with my eyes closed. I was even surprised that my head wasn’t drenched in sweat, that I didn’t scream at my husband, that every inch of wall, every thread of the sheet wasn’t covered in blood and other body/baby fluids. After all, I had come to expect any and all of that from the countless birth scenes I had watched on TV and in the movies.

I don’t expect Hollywood to provide us with health class film strips of the miracle of birth, I really don’t. And I suppose anything involving vampires is off the hook as far as reality goes. But I wouldn’t mind more movies and TV shows backing away from the screaming, pissed off birthing mom cliche. It would be nice to see a fictional birth that doesn’t involve gallons of fake blood and the near-death of mommy or baby or both.

TNS Note: I couldn’t agree more. Everyone claims they want as realistic, graphic birth scene as possible… but have they ever been to a real birth? Usually, they are quiet, intense, and wonderful. Here’s hoping Melissa Rosenberg (who has no children) has the sense to check with Wyck’s wife, the famous OB-GYN, before finalizing that scene. And for anyone who hasn’t had a baby — but likely will one day — do some study beforehand.
So who in Hollywood truly had the best summer?

Your King and Queen of Summer 2010: Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

The 20-year-old actress plays girl-power pioneer Joan in new bio-pic The Runaways, out on Friday.

Although Joan admits Kristen’s fame is far more extreme than she experienced in her days in the girl band, she says they share many similarities.

And she is confident the young star can handle the pressure.

“Look what she’s got to deal with,” said Joan, 51. “You can be a successful actor and still be able to go out and buy a loaf of bread but there’s nothing that Kristen can do at the moment.

“What I meant to her is more through example than me saying, ‘No, you should do this, or no, you should do that’.

” I don’t deal with the people she deals with and the questions that they ask her and all that stuff, so I can only say, I can only do what I do.

“And if she learns something from the way I handle my own stuff, it’s just to be in control.”

Kristen cut her hair into Joan’s shaggy style for the film, which charts the short-lived but explosive career of The Runaways.

Dakota Fanning plays the group’s singer Cherie Currie and Michael Shannon plays shady manager Kim Fowley.

Joan, who has been dubbed the godmother of punk, was an executive producer on the film and was always on hand to help Kristen.

She says: “I told her, ‘I don’t want you thinking, what would Joan do? I want you to just do it, because I guarantee you, whatever choice you make, it’s going to be what I would have done.

“Just have fun with it, have fun being it, and you can get away with any bad behaviour, blaming it on me.”

It was full of hot hookups (Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart), unfortunate moments on live TV (Jennifer Aniston dropping the R-word on Regis and Kelly) and outrageous reality stars (hello, Snooki!) As you celebrate the last weekend of summer, join HollywoodLife.com as we break down the past three months and determine who was HOT and who was COLD.

HOT: R-Patz & K-Stew’s romance! Not only were the Twilight lovebirds spotted making out on the set of Kristen’s new movie On the Road, but they also forked over the cash for a super-private love nest in Bel-Air, Calif. Ah, young love.

COLD: Miley & Liam’s split! The spark that developed on the set of The Last Song fizzled out for Miley and Liam this summer. Liam’s rep confirmed the break-up Aug. 24. Too bad, they made a cute couple.

On Sunday, September 5, the “Twilight Saga” hunk let out that he is grateful of the fact when re-tweeting to a Twitter user who informed him about the news.

“Thank you all for your replys! I’m so grateful that she has been found and even more grateful for the new law! Thank you ALL for taking a stand and using your voices against such actions as this,” the 25-year-old wrote. “You all are my Heroes! Thx you!” The law he mentioned is a newly adopted Bosnian animal-protection law that faces the puppy abuser with a fine of $6,400 if convicted.

Minutes earlier, Kellan let out an angry rant at the Bosnian girl who was taped giggling when throwing the puppies to the river on his Twitter page. “What is going on with the search for the girl throwing the puppies into the river. You’d be surprised”

Is Katniss Everdeen the antidote to Bella Swan? …so much about “The Hunger Games,” from its crossover success with adults to the crowds who packed bookstores when “Mockingjay” [the final book in the series] went on sale… to its teenage narrator with her tangled love life, prompts the comparison.

As for Katniss, she is in many respects an improvement on the passive, besotted Bella…

The differences between the two heroines are marked: Bella Swan is clumsy and largely helpless, a rescue object for Edward and Jacob, the werewolf who vies with the vampire for her affections; Katniss is a tough and competent woodswoman and sharpshooter. Bella is willing to give up everything — her family, friends, previous life, even her humanity — to dote on her beloved Edward for eternity; Katniss sacrifices herself for her mother and sister. Bella is one long, quivering bowstring of frustrated lust (at least until the fourth book in Meyer’s series); Katniss, about the same age, is unstirred by adolescent hormones, despite the two cute, sweet guys who proclaim their love for her. She may be enmeshed in the kind of romantic triangle that leads fans to don Team This Guy or Team That Guy T-shirts, but the boys’ attentions mostly make her unhappy. Her tender feelings for them leave her even more vulnerable to the cold, manipulative authority figures who provoke her strongest passion: righteous anger.

So, yes, Bella and Katniss are very different. You even could view their stories as embodying the two major value systems of Western culture, the Romantic and the Classical. Bella, a slave to forbidden love, regards intense feeling as the ultimate truth. Collins, more culturally literate than Meyer by far, has loaded her trilogy with classical references (the tributes themselves were inspired by the myth of the minotaur; many of the Capitol’s residents have Roman names) and given us a heroine preoccupied with duty and justice — a chaste archer like the virgin goddess of the hunt, Artemis. If “Twilight” is all about love, then “The Hunger Games” is all about power, and the violence used to secure it.

One thing you can say about Bella Swan, though: She knows what she wants. For the two books leading up to “Mockingjay,” Katniss acts decisively and often effectively, but only when she’s backed into a corner… Her behavior is understandable, but never freely chosen. “I’m not just a piece in their game,” is her habitual refrain, but except for a few climactic and highly circumscribed moments, she’s often just that. What does Katniss really want? It’s hard to say…

Underlying Katniss’ unacknowledged mixed feelings is the trilogy’s own profound ambivalence about desire and power. In some ways, Katniss is more passive than Bella, allowed to have all kinds of goodies but only if she demonstrates her virtue by not really wanting them in the first place…

Part of this is a classic American ambivalence: We love violence, fame, the media and wealth — all of the apparatus of power — even if we claim to disapprove of these things. Our pop culture narratives invariably default to violent resolutions, but not before explaining that the hero had no other option than to blow the bad guy away in a climactic smackdown-plus-explosion. It was self-defense! An accident! Saving the world! He drove me to it! I didn’t want to — I’m not that kind of guy. He made me!

But this sort of passive-aggressive emotional logic is not unfamiliar to certain romance novels, either: The hero makes the heroine accept what she craves while she gets to deny how much she craves it. Need I add that this demonstrates a twisted attitude toward female desire?

If Katniss… longed to compete and to win — if she had any ambition at all — she would be a bad girl by such a standard. Perhaps we’d be scrutinizing and critiquing her character the way so many of us (myself included) have dissected Bella Swan’s. For all her irritating flaws, Bella, at least, has the courage of her desire. For what, besides a well-earned vengeance, does Katniss Everdeen truly hunger?

Furthermore, the 24-year-old British hunk wasn’t happy that Kristen, 20, decided to take the role of sexually promiscuous young Marylou Moriarty, the wife of Garrett’s troubled drifter, Dean, in the big screen adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s Beat Generation novel in the first place! “He didn’t like that Kristen was even considering taking this role. He understands that she doesn’t want to be known as just Bella from Twilight, and he’s doing the same thing with his own career, but he didn’t take on a role as risque as hers!”

The fact that sexy Viggo is in the film as Old Bull Run, a married druggie pal of Dean’s, is causing a rift between the Twilight lovers. “He’s very jealous,” our insider says. “Kristen told him she didn’t want him on the set because it would make her feel uncomfortable, but Rob said he’s going to be there. Especially now that her scenes are with Viggo, who is very very hot! Rob is free until filming begins on the next Twilight film, so he’s got all the time in the world to keep an eye on Kristen – and he will.”

HollywoodLife claims Pattinson is “freaking out” about Stewart’s “sex scenes” with On The Road co-star Viggo Mortensen…

Supposedly, the Twilight actor is so “worried about hanky panky going on during his girlfriend’s racy scenes with Viggo” that he plans to hang around the set all the time.

“There are a lot of sex scenes including a threesome, and Rob wants to make sure that it’s all pretend from the start and finish of the film,” claims a HollywoodLife “insider.”

In fact, the source adds, “He didn’t like that Kristen was even considering taking this role,” noting that as Pattinson branches out from Edward Cullen “he didn’t take on a role as risque as hers.”

Good grief.

[shaking head]

Where to begin?

For one thing, Stewart’s Marylou Moriarty character in On The Road is not involved in a string of racy scenes.

That’s kind of an important point HollywoodLife should note.

Also, Pattinson actually is taking on a rather sexual role in Bel Ami, not that Stewart or anyone else is “freaking out.”

Unlike the gang at HollywoodLife, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are adult professionals, not children. They’re quite aware that love scenes are “pretend…”

If the cool summer weather in southern California wasn’t bad enough to send Hollywood’s sun worshippers into a funk, the anaemic level of ticket sales certainly did.

US cinemas sold fewer tickets this summer than they have for any previous summers in the past decade. Thus, despite higher ticket prices, revenues were down 1 per cent from last year at an estimated 4.24 billion dollars. Tickets sold dropped by about 6 per cent to 538 million, according to the National Association of Theatre Owners.

The 4.5-per-cent ticket price increase to an average of 7.88 dollars probably didn’t deter too many people from splurging on a cinema ticket. A far bigger deterrent was the lack of quality new films to attract would-be filmgoers, said Patrick Corcoran, an association spokesman.

‘It’s too quick and easy to point to ticket prices and say that’s the reason a summer does better or worse,’ he told The Hollywood Reporter. ‘The difference in almost any year is how attractive the movies are to an audience…’

Some franchise films did do remarkably well. Pixar kept up its enviable track record with Toy Story 3 earning 405.7 million dollars in the United States, making it the top earner of the season.
The Twilight saga’s Eclipse also piled in audiences with receipts of 298 million dollars, while the futuristic fantasy Inception justified its huge budget with a 270.5 million dollar take.

Scientists, authors and education experts are meeting this weekend at Cambridge University to investigate how the teenage brain is affected or altered by reading the “Twilight” saga, the “Harry Potter” series and other books that invite fear and anxious emotional responses.

Edward Cullen altering the teen brain? This is one education conference that I would have enjoyed attending. (I have two teenage daughters.)

It turns out, according to the organizer of the interdisciplinary conference, called “The Emergent Adult — Adolescent Literature and Culture,” that fiction with dark themes does indeed alter teen brains in sometimes important ways.

The conference is bringing together scientists, authors and education experts to make connections between recent neuroscience research and the representation of the adolescent in literature, film, computer games and social networking sites. Participants are looking at the physiological, psychological, chemical and sociological effects of reading teenage fiction…

The trend for darkness and dystopia in children’s literature reflects concerns in the wider, adult world, Nikolajeva said. A hundred years ago, books for kids were dominated with stories about boys having adventures and girls finding husbands; then, from the 1950s to the 1970s, the themes were emerging sexuality and parental conflict.

Inside the teenage brain, synapses are breaking and reforming, and the chemistry keeps changing. Teenagers can’t make decisions in the same way adults can, Nikolajeva said, and she noted that authors, filmmakers and game developers have a moral obligation to make sure that their works contain some positive ethic…

Q. Let me start by asking you this: Are kids’ brains really changed after they read the “Twilight” saga or “Harry Potter”? What does change mean, anyway, in this context?

A. We have always known that encounters with art and literature affect our senses. We feel joy, sorrow, fear, anxiety, grief. We empathize with the characters. We learn from them about ourselves and about other people. What we know today from neuroscience is that there are spots in the brain that are responsible for these feelings, that it is possible to identify parts of the brain affected by reading or watching a film. Adolescent brain goes through a significant and rapid change; everything that affects it leaves deep imprints. Very dark fiction creates and amplifies a sense of insecurity, which is typical of adolescence; but it can also be a liberation, when readers “share” their personal experience with that of fictional characters. So yes, all readers’ brains are changed after they have read a book, but teenage brains are especially perceptive and therefore vulnerable.

What kind of “deep imprints”? Does deep mean lasting?

Yes, both lasting and delving deeply into the mind.

About the notion of vulnerability: Is there a possibility that an exclusive diet of such material could negatively affect some teens?

Definitely. Here comes the question of responsibility. Writers who address young audience should, in an ideal world, be very careful about what they say. Exactly because teenage brains lack the ability to make judgments. In plain words, they may get wrong ideas. Not because they are stupid, but because their brains are wired like that. Because they are socially and emotionally unstable. The so-called social brain is under development during adolescence. Small children presumably do and believe what they are told to. Adolescents start to think for themselves, they interrogate, they doubt.

What does modern brain research tell us about the differences between adult and kids brains when it comes to reading?

So far it is all basic emotions: joy, sorrow, fear. But teenage readers can get extremely engaged with what they read, for instance, “fall in love” with fictional characters. Once again, not because they are stupid, but because there is so much going on in the brain (synapses that get pruned, other connections made, etc.) that it gets confusing, as if you were watching 10 movies at the same time. By the way, teenagers do — perhaps not watch 10 movies, but listen to music, chat, blog, watch, read, all at the same time. With adults, it gets much more quiet. As adults we can take distance from what we read or see. For teenagers, it’s all real and close…

The idea that kids fall in love with fictional characters is so true. I’ve seen it happen. But what is the danger there? Can this affect their view of reality in a negative way?

Yes, because fictitious characters are not like real people; usually — not always — they are less complex, more predictable, their behavior may be driven by the plot rather than by psychological motivation, and it can be very confusing for young people. Especially in popular culture where all girls are beautiful and all men strong and handsome. Literature and art are not direct images of reality, and you need to be a mature reader/viewer to understand the fictional reality. A young girl who falls in love with a literary character may get problems with social relationships in real life.

Please talk a little bit about the trend in young people’s literature.

Well, this would take a couple of hours. YA fiction is about the marginal situation between childhood and adulthood. Childhood is over, but it was secure and somewhat straightforward. Adulthood is enticing, but uncertain and strange. The body changes unpredictably. The mind is out of control. Nothing is stable. There are rules to break and boundaries to test.

Relationship with parents or parental figures is crucial. But the thing is that, with few exceptions, YA novels are written by adults. So they are in fact not about what is it to be an adolescent, but what it should be, since, perhaps unconsciously, adults want to instruct young people and guide them into adulthood. So images of adolescence in YA fiction are images of what adults want teenagers to believe. It’s a very powerful ideological tool.

YA novels have successively explored various issues of adolescence, starting with sexuality in the 1960s and then death, suicide, sexual identity, anorexia, etc. Today the most prominent trend is dystopia, possibly because the world is what it is today, but also because placing an adolescent in an extreme situation is a good pedagogical and narrative device. “Hunger Games” is a very good example. But YA fiction has always been more dark and bleak than literature for younger children.

What can/should parents do in regard to letting kids read dark material?

Nothing. Kids will always find ways of accessing materials that the adults want to hide from them, and with Internet there is no control over what they can get hold of. So it is important to let young people be exposed to all kinds of literature and culture, dark and light, serious and entertaining; and it is always a good idea to talk to kids about what they read, watch or listen to. Many grown-ups today read the same books that teenagers read: “Harry Potter,” “His Dark Materials,” “Twilight” and much more — the so-called crossover literature. Then parents/teachers and kids can talk to each other, share their reading experience. This is the best one can do.

The worst one can do is to forbid or restrict.

Elysa: I wanna talk about the Volturi because not only are they probably my single most favorite aspect of the series but I think as far as the villains go [they’re] probably my favorite of almost any book I’ve ever read. Because for me they’re like—

Matt: Rockstars.

Elysa: Well yes, naturally. But—

Kallie: Foreign rockstars.

Elysa: What I like so much is that you can’t…there’s a great sense of ambiguity there in a lot of ways. They’re clearly the enemy and you’re clearly afraid of them but there’s a sort of reverence as well and especially because, in some ways as humans, you have to kind of respect a little bit that they prevent things, like Seattle, from happening all the time. So I love them for that reason, also because I think a lot of villains, whether it’sHarry Potter or Star Wars and other big franchises, you can tell by looking at them you know what I mean?

SM: Monsters. They look ugly. Zombies coming at you.

Elysa: Exactly! It’s like that’s expected and you know…

SM: Although there’s a book that’s gonna come out I think next year called Warm Bodies that will change zombies for you forever so—

Meghan: For the rest of your life.

SM: For the rest of your life. You’ll never look at them and not be like—

Meghan: Go get it.

(chatter)

SM: It’s not out yet. It’s by Isaac Marion, and it’ll change zombies for you forever.

Matt: Is it a series?

SM: No—

(chatter)

Meghan: It’s a stand-alone. He has a website and he has up some of his other stuff. Plug for Isaac!

SM: I mean it’s funny because I always use zombies as an example like how monsters you’re supposed to be able to look at…And see that’s…I find it so much more frightening when you can’t tell. You know because it’s like I never really got scared over monster movies and I found I didn’t watch a lot of horror, the ones that scared me were like psycho because he looks like a nice guy and that’s when you don’t know. And that’s the scary thing because you walk out of your house and there isn’t a dinosaur about to eat you but there is a guy right over there and what if he’s a psychopath? And I’ve always been fascinated with appearances because evil doesn’t appear evil, it doesn’t. It’s clean and shiny and pretty. The Volturi are kind of, they’re villains that got to have 3,000 years to refine themselves into [this] perfect powerful presence, and they’re fun. It’s fun to show vampires at the very pinnacle of that power, although they’re not really at the…They are very dark but you know you have a whole different kind. You kind of figure with vampires the whole, like the more wild and blood-thirsty, but this is just such a controlling and patient kind of evil.

Elysa: That’s what creeps me out!

SM: The patience is…Well and one thing, Aro in particular, the really really darkest thing for me about him is that he can honestly love someone and still kill them if it gets in his way; like his sister who he honestly loved, who was like the most important person in his world, but she got in the way of his ambition and he could kill her and grieve her but grieve over what he had done but still do it because that was okay to him in his world. And when you can do that, when you can cross that line—shivers.

Elysa: Yeah, yeah.

Matt: Do you have a question?

Elysa: No, I just wanted to fangirl a bit.

Matt: Oh, okay!

SM: You know who you should read? My favorite villains, like the scariest villains I’ve ever read, have any of you read Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman? [Croup] and [Vandemar], Oh. My. Gosh!

Elysa: What’s the name of this?

SM: It’s called Neverwhere, and it’s by Neil Gaiman, who’s one of my favorite like geniuses, and he has these bad guys [Croup] and [Vandemar], I’ve never read anyone so terrifying in my life. They’re so good. So good!

(chatter)

Elysa: Maybe there is a question to be salvaged from all of this. Did you always know the Volturi went to visit Victoria before?

SM: Yes, because in the story, when Alice has the vision, they give her four days and I always knew that there was an impetus that they had met up that she had to make a decision because Victoria’s would’ve been to be like: “Now. Let’s go.” You know? No thought. That’s how she was planning to roll. Get them ready kind of get there and they’re like now we run and so that they have maybe, at most, an hour to get to her. Four days was really an exorbitant amount of time and that was the Volturi’s fault because Jane was tired of waiting and so she went and said, “You have to do something already.” Victoria was making a huge mess.

Elysa: I think you might’ve touched on this before a little bit earlier, but you said that sometimes Jane does act on her own a little bit.

SM: This is really kind of a…I mean, Aro is very controlling. He is the pinnacle and he has all the power and so he calls the shots but in this specific case knowing with Alice he has to deviate from the pattern and so he let Jane make her…You know he said, “Go out.” And not even specifically about them because Alice could see that, you know just “Jane, I think that you are very much fantastic and I want you to go out and take care of things in the world that need to be taken care of on your own. I think you can make your own decisions.” And Jane is like: “Ah, I know what this is about.” And so she goes out there and she knows it’s her mission. She knows it’s about the Cullens. She knows that she has to effect some kind of progress there, but how to do it. So yeah that’s Jane. You could write a story about Jane through [that] month of frustration and all the stuff she was trying to do and not screwing up so that when she came home Aro didn’t decide “maybe I don’t need someone who can burn people.”

Elysa: Do you think…

Kallie: Go ahead! That was what we were gonna ask so that’s good.

Matt: We have a while.

Elysa: Okay. Does…I always was under the impression that Jane hated Bella more than anyone and then we read Bree and apparently she really hates Alice .

SM: Well think about it, Aro this whole time…Aro is the one person of significance in her life, besides Alec, but Aro is the one that she always wants to be the favorite of.

Matt: Like the new baby.

SM: Yeah. Well but I mean they’ve had a relationship for years. She is his prize. She is his jewel. He is unstoppable because of her. Alec obviously is a big part in that too but there’s a very strong relationship there and now he’s found a shinier jewel than her, and if she could kill Alice she’d do it in a heartbeat. But she knows that that would, I mean she’d be in real trouble then. So she hates Alice . Bella’s just annoying, someone who doesn’t cringe in pain? How dare she! But Alice —

(chatter and laughter)

SM: Alice is a problem for her, a big problem. You know that when it came down to the fight if… Jane would’ve been hopeful that Alice would’ve gone out. And you know, how frustrating Aro gets there and Alice isn’t there and it’s like: “Oh crap.” And Jane’s sitting there like: “She’s not gonna die?” And Aro knows exactly how she feels and he’s able to play that to his benefit ‘cause he’s sick!

(chatter)

SM: He is sick, but lovely, and Michael Sheen…You know I—

(chatter)

SM: We kicked around a lot of names with that, right? And Michael Sheen was Chris’ [Weitz] choice and you know I hadn’t…Frost/Nixon? He’s a great actor but I couldn’t see him in it.

Fansite: Oh Lucian, so hot!

SM: Well see, I hadn’t seen the Underworld things and so I was just like: “Uh, I don’t know. I kind of had a different mental image and I had this actor or that actor that I wanted” and he talked me into it. First day I saw him on set I went up to Chris and I said, “Thank you so much. You were right, I was wrong. I will listen to you forever because you were so right on that one.”

(chatter)

SM: It was like acting class to watch him go in there. Every single take he did something different, he did a slightly different thing. Always, of course, lines perfect. He would never [make a] mistake but he gave them something different for the director to pull from and he’s so great. He’s a really interesting guy. He’s so much fun to talk to.

Fansite: My husband thinks I’m crazy for all this. When he heard that Michael Sheen was [in New Moon] he was like: “Oh, maybe this isn’t as crazy as I thought.”

SM: He is so great, and it’s one of the reasons I love that movie is because I love watching him work. Every time he comes on it’s just like: “Say something more!”

(chatter)

SM: And I hate that Jamie Campbell Bower did not get as many lines he had originally.

(chatter)

SM: ‘Cause he is chilling.

Kallie: He’s brilliant.

SM: He actually tried out for Demetri.

Kallie: Oh really?

SM: And he was too scary for Demetri, we were watching it. There was another guy that…You know Demetri is supposed to be, Charlie [Bewley] was sort of the in between, Demetri is supposed to be smoother and like kind of calm people down, but then of course movie people don’t want to ever have somebody that’s a peacemaker they want all the tension. So Charlie was scary, but not as scary as Jamie. Jamie was chilling and then his face takes the makeup like nobody else, he has no pores! His face is perfect. And he looked, you know he got in the makeup and every line he delivered had so much weight and you’re just like: “More. More please.” Caius needs a story. We need to see more of it. A whole thing with him and Michael Sheen just let’s go! Well Marcus too, who also… Chris [Heyerdahl] just creepy. He just did this thing where he sounded like he had 500 years of dust in his throat. It was crazy.

(chatter)

SM: At a cast dinner I was sitting there talking to him, I didn’t know it was him because he’s bald and I was so used to him in the hair! And so I’m talking to this tall bald guy and just like thinking that he was somebody else and then when I realized it was the actor I’m thinking really quick back through everything I said, “Did I…Does he know I don’t know who he is?” And then I told him I’m like: “I didn’t recognize you without the wig and the red eyes and all that.”

Fansite: That’s so funny!

Kallie: Okay, I have a question about music.

SM: Music.

Kallie: One of the things that I loved most, even before the movies came out, was going to your website and playing the playlists while I read and so now that we’ve got these movies and these soundtracks, are there any songs from the soundtracks that you think, “Oh that would’ve been really good on my playlist”?

SM: Um, I’m trying to think. Right now the song from The Dead Weather, it’s, cover your ears, it’s in the scene with Victoria talking to Riley and it’s like her theme.

Matt: Yes.

SM: Okay you’re good. You’re good. It’s like her theme song, like the tone of it, not the words so much, but the beat and the sound that just…I really liked how that worked. And you know obviously the prom song from Twilight was…just became so iconic.

Fansite: Every time I hear it I just feel like crying.

SM: Yeah. I mean, there are some great…And [the] Thom Yorke song from New Moon.

Fansites: Oh I love that.

SM: It was the pinnacle of the music in the movies for me, and that’s how Chris’ mind works. Like he could see that this could be an action sequence song. We saw that with…We had a premiere in Arizona , I do it with my friends sometimes, and we had a band come and perform and they hadn’t seen the movie before either and they came up. All they could talk about was that song. It blew their minds how that worked. And that was cool. So there are obviously songs, but most of the songs, like the lyrics from them and I’m a very lyric and music [person] I have to have both, and a lot of these, in the movies it’s a lot more about the sound, except for Lykke Li’s “Possibility” song which is killer where that was put in, and so some of the songs it’s more about the tone in the movies and then when you deconstruct them it doesn’t work as well with the books. So I don’t know that I would do too many replacements.

Kallie: But it’s nice to hear the ones that you love so much ‘cause it’s one of those things that…you’re a music person.

SM: Well it’s a nice chance for me to be able to have my tastes with the music, because in the movies that’s a really tough one because there are a lot of people involved in that and you’ve got a record company who has things they want to promote and you’ve got another person who has these things to promote. We struck out on this last one. I mean I love the soundtrack but there was one song we fought for and we kicked for and we cried for and we just begged any placement of it and we still…

Matt: What was the song?

SM: Um, I’m a big fan of the band Meese, and they did a song for the movie specifically so it’s not released but I think they will release it, and I wanted it for the end because it had this lightness to it. All through the movie you kind of…and then that end you need a song that picks you up, and the Metric song is really good there, but we love this song.

(chatter)

SM: It fits really good and it’s beautiful, and I really liked how it turned out but before we’d heard that, we didn’t hear that song till very near the end it was one of the last things we heard, and we were really fighting for that song [to be placed] just anywhere ‘cause it had this feeling of like, you know it’s so complicated with Bella and Edward there’s a lot of downer things but when the two of them are together and it’s just the two of them there should be a happiness to it, and this song has a happy sound and it’s just light and we really loved it. Shout out! I love Meese, they’re great. You guys are all getting a Meese CD today, just fyi.

Fansites: Yay!

SM: I put some of my new favorites in the bag so you’re getting Meese and Dan Mangan, that CD I cannot stop listening to, and then Sleigh Bells, which is really good for like working out, right? And then what was the fourth one we put in?

Meghan: Florence and the Machine.

SM: Florence and the Machine. They have one of the best songs on the soundtrack. “Heavy” it kills me it’s so good.

Fansite: And then Sia right after that, we were just talking about how that transition between those two songs is awesome.

Fansite: Beck’s song too.

Kallie: I love the music.

Fansites: The Beck song is great.

Kallie: I’m kinda, when you…I think I connected even more with the books when I was on your website and saw Muse on it ‘cause I was like: “Aw, this takes me back to high school.” ‘Cause I’m not…not necessarily all of their music [does that] but that’s when they were writing a lot of really good stuff and it’s kind of funny that they’re so popular now ‘cause they were out back then.

SM: When I first heard them like nobody had heard about them. The thing that for me that fits with the way I write and the way that they’re music strikes me, I guess, is that they are so…they’re not cynical about it. They throw themselves into it. They live that emotion and there’s no sense of like: “I’m gonna hold back and be a little sarcastic” or whatever. They just [put] pure emotion into the songs whatever it is. It’s the end of the world? It’s the end of the world! Like they don’t…They take it seriously, and when I write I don’t like to be cynical I want to just feel the emotions and so their songs work really well for me that way.

Fansite: Do you like Rush?

SM: I haven’t listened to a lot of Rush. I should.

Fansite: ‘Cause they’re literally [this part is inaudible].

SM: See I have a weird…my musical…I didn’t listen to a lot of music in high school, which is what most people do, and so I really got into music more in college and then even more, more and more as I got older which is kind of a weird way to do it. So a lot of the music that I really love is stuff that came out in the last ten years. I have a limited background.

And, of course, it’s a lot easier to work with person I worked before. We understand each other without the words. I can tell Kristen about all my problems. But honestly I don’t have to… because she’s in same position as I am… Kristen really cares about me. I’m very grateful for this. She’s the most honest and genuine person I’ve ever met. She always listens and gives good advice regardless of her own interests.”

“Summit is pulling out because the process has gone on way too long and it’s become a distraction for the business,” an insider tells me this morning. Summit toppers Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger are still in acquisition mode, and the company will continuing looking for good deals in what is a very depressed showbiz marketplace where bargains are plentiful — especially film and TV libraries. The fundamental issue which MGM creditors had with Summit is that they would have had to give up too much equity in order involve the mini-major which remains flush with cash thanks to the Twilight franchise. “I’m not sure that Summit bowing out changes the Spyglass situation,” my insider added. For months now, Hollywood has known that Spyglass is the bigger creditors’ frontrunner to control MGM, which seems finally poised to plunge itself into a prepackaged bankruptcy, and then emerge with Spyglass partners Roger Birnbaum and Gary Barber starting production for the studio. But Summit has remained very much under consideration and hadn’t heard they’re out of it — at least not yet. So Summit decided to pull the plug on its own.

The New Yorker in June dissected the boom in dystopian fiction for young people, Time magazine named Collins one of its 100 most influential people, and unlike the guilty-pleasure stigma surrounding Twilight, Collins’ grim vision of the future is being heralded by both readers and critics. Authors Stephen King, Twilight’s Stephenie Meyer, and The Southern Vampire Mysteries’ Charlaine Harris have all praised the books…

With no premiere date in sight, eager readers have gotten creative. More than 470,000 people have viewed this impressive fan-made movie trailer—and it’s just one of the many, including this live-action one. A group of fans have even created Hunger Games Web episodes where the action is enacted by Sims. New York Magazine’s Vulture, Entertainment Weekly, MTV and the Los Angeles Times have already begun trying to cast the film; seemingly in the lead to play Katniss are Kick-Ass star Chloe Moretz—who has said she “really really” wants the role — and The Lovely Bones’ Saoirse Ronan.

Twilight star Kristen Stewart is also in the running on nearly all of the online shortlists.

That’s when Lionsgate chooses a filmmaker for The Hunger Games, the first installment of a trilogy based on the Suzanne Collins novel series that many feel could be the next Twilight. I’m told that Lionsgate has gotten Billy Ray’s rewrite, and will meet with three elite directors next week before making a decision. Gary Ross, Sam Mendes and David Slade have emerged as the favorites. The script has become one of those closely guarded documents which do not leave the production company’s headquarters. I’ve also heard Andrew Adamson’s name in the mix, but it appears to be down to the three I mentioned.

Hunger Games is likened to Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight novels because the books developed a wide following in both the youth and adult demographics, which makes studios salivate because the films could reach multiple audience quadrants. But Hunger Games is really dark…

The town is closely watching who’ll get the job. If it’s Slade–who just directed The Twilight Saga: Eclipse–what does that do to X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2, a job which Slade is a frontrunner to win?

The Twilight actor, 18, reached a settlement with McMahon’s RV Friday after the California-based company failed to deliver a trailer to the set of Abduction by June 21.

“McMahon’s RV has agreed to settle its dispute with Taylor Lautner. McMahon’s RV will pay $40,000 to Lautner, which Lautner will donate to The Lollipop Theater Network, a children’s charity with which he has a long-standing relationship,” Lautner’s attorney Robert Barta tells UsMagazine.com exclusively.

Adds Barta: “The Lollipop Theater Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing movies currently in theaters to children confined to hospitals due to chronic or life-threatening illnesses. The Lollipop Theater Network works with hospitals nationwide, including the greater Los Angeles and Orange County areas…”

“This was never a suit about money. It was to hold someone accountable,” the insider says. “Taylor never ordered a customized RV — it was a used RV which needed simple safety-related repairs. There was never any diva behavior. ‘Emotional distress’ is an automatic checked box on a fraudulent claim.”

Well, that was then. Zero tabloid drama and one Kate Gosselin haircut later, nobody’s talking about Samuel—not even us.

So now that new guy Rami Malek—who we’ll admit is quite the exotic-lookin’ looker—is signed on for Breaking Dawn: Part II, is it too early to start swooning? Or is it just about time to start yawning?

We thought Twilight makes a star out of everyone, but that clearly wasn’t the case with Samuel, or even with Bryce Dallas Howard (who was already a star, but no thanks to the vamp franchise). There is debate on all the subjects, and the fans come off as remarkably well-thought and intuitive. If someone is adamant about an opinion, there is usually a reason behind it. Sometimes it is fair and just, and understandable, other times it may be a bit far-fetched (is imprinting really romantic, especially when it’s a small child and teenage boy?).

Of course, people of all ages love Twilight, but there’s a distinct Tween following. Chalk it up to hunky Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner to spawn the interest of pre-pubescent squealing girls.

On the other hand, there’s another loyal following of a more mature audience that is very in tune with Stephenie Meyers’ book. In the final accord Robert Pattinson has to give Bella a ‘vampire C-section’ to deliver their child.

The Vancouver Sun reports that the screenwriter says “It’s about the intensity of it. It’s on their faces. It’s all from Bella’s point of view when you’re seeing what’s going. It should feel visceral. I think it’s going to be pretty intense.”

They were the ones no one noticed were missing. Riley keeps his group in the dark, literally, about the true purpose of their creation and the reason why they need to defeat the “yellow eyes.” When looking at it that way, it’s quite easy to feel bad for them. Meyer explains everything in such a detailed way that I could almost feel the thirsty, burning sensation in my throat that the characters felt before attacking their victims. Readers will experience the thrill of the hunt, the curiosity of being young, and the unlikely circumstances that can bring friends together – if only for a while.

Honestly, the only thing I wasn’t thrilled with about the book was its title.

So if you’re looking for a quick read, find a comfy couch and take a bite out of this little adventure. Twilight fans are sure to be pleased with the latest add-on to the series. If you’ve never read Meyer’s books before, this 178 pager might be just the dose you need to turn you into a newborn Twi-hard.

What’s Playing says they were told in an email from a tipster who works in licensing, “It goes without saying Summit want to continue this franchise… Tanner is the one they’re looking at post-Breaking Dawn. It’s too early to talk casting, and everything we’re hearing is just speculation or off a wish list, but I don’t believe they plan on using the original actress, Jodelle Ferland, for the spin-off film. I know we keep seeing rumors floating around and the IMDB page (which mind you is fan generated and NOT a reliable source) starting to fill up, but actual production starts in as little as 2 months.

My thoughts are Summit either has the actors they want and signed, and they will leak them slowly over the next couple months, or they are really waiting until the last minute to fulfill the VERY large list of actors needed to play all the extra characters in Breaking Dawn.

With that being said, since they are filming BD1 and BD2 back to back and we all know movies are not filmed like they are actually on the screen, some of the actors that consist of all the other covens will be needed sooner than later in filming (going on the thought that this will be filmed out of order). Point being, some would say they have not casted the parts because they will not film until later, but in the movie industry as stated above, it does not work that way.
