Kristen Stewart: Kissing Dakota Fanning

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

The Runaways will be released in a week’s time and during the film’s press conference, Kristen Stewart addresses one of the film’s controversial scene – kissing Dakota Fanning.

“She was 15, and I wasn’t allowed to grope her,” Kristen, 19, told Access Hollywood on Wednesday at the press junket for her new rocker film. “I’m actually not kidding, there are major restrictions that I don’t remember [from] when I was younger.

“I don’t want to give anything way. It’s a really passionate, hardcore scene,” she continued. “No, it’s just a kiss. It’s not really a big deal.”

“It looks great in the movie, but we are not close to the musicians that they are,” Kristen said.

Dakota also shared her thoughts about it.

“It’s just something that happened in their lives,” Dakota told Access of the kissing scene. “In the script, it’s not like a big build up or something that they talk about afterwards.”

Lexicon Review: Remember Me, the Non-New Yorker’s View

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Both Be My escape and Pel had the opportunity to see remember Me at a prescreening. First up we have Jen’s (Be My Escape’s) review. Pel’s will be up in a bit (she’s been working 14 hours days and is a little tired right now.) Please be aware that like with any review there are spoilers involved. So without further ado, Jen’s review:

I was lucky enough to see Remember Me at a screening a few weeks ago. I have to say I didn’t go in with any expectations. I hadn’t even really explored what the movie was about except that Rob Pattinson was in it and that wasn’t necessarily my motivation for seeing the film. I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the script. New York City was used as the backdrop but the usual iconic scenery wasn’t rammed down your throat. It was a nice change of pace. Allen Coulter clearly took care in presenting the city in a way that people who live there can respect and understand.

The opening scene of Remember Me was haunting and sets the tone for the rest of the film. Tyler (Rob Pattinson) and Ally (Emilie de Ravin) have both been touched by tragedy and each is dealing with it in their own way. Ally’s motto is to live everyday to fullest knowing things can change in an instant. Emilie de Ravin plays Ally with just enough balance of playfulness and shadowed past. Her interactions with Pattinson are genuine and the chemistry is fantastic.

In Remember Me, how each person deals with tragedy is essential to who they are. Tyler (Rob Pattinson) suffers a loss that causes him to lose his way. He becomes the self indulgent, poor little rich boy who hates his father. Pattinson plays the part to perfection. Tyler becomes a relatable character brought to life by the combination of strong script writing, intelligent directing, and the subtle pain Pattinson brings to the character.

The film is a beautiful story about finding one’s self in spite of what you have been through and knowing that things can change in an instant. The family dynamics, whether it be Ally’s dad (Chris Cooper)being driven to extremes because of his over protectiveness or Tyler’s dad (Pierce Brosnan) being cool and aloof, not knowing how to care for his children, the dynamics are all recognizable characteristics in the average family.

Now let’s get to the part everyone wants to know about, the end. Any story set in NYC in 2001 runs the risk of being too painful to watch. 9/11 is like an old wound still sensitive to the touch, any movie that includes the topic doesn’t always appeal to the masses. In this case however the subject matter is handled with extreme delicacy and respect to those who lived through the experience. It is not driving force of the story but an element that adds another layer.

Overall if you are looking for a film that showcases Rob Pattinson as a knock-off version of Edward Cullen this is not it. The film is so much more than just a vehicle for Rob. The family dynamics and lack of direction that Tyler has are all things that average people can relate to. This is a story about survival, about being the one that was left behind and how you choose to live your life after being touched by tragedy. There is a heart and soul to this film that isn’t in your typical drama and it is absolutely worth the watch.

One last note bring tissues!!

Robert Pattinson: Remember Me interviews

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Parade has posted the second part of their interview with Rob, where he talked about the lessons he has learned from Pierce Brosnan, growing up, dating and many more.

The dating game.
“When it comes to the opposite sex, I’m not as fully confident as the guy I play. I don’t even remember the last time I asked someone out on a date, like, just went up to them and that’s the first thing I did. I’m much more self-conscious and not wanting to fail. So I tend to hold back.”

Ditto with unleashing his macho side.
“I related to Tyler in that I wish I could have done things like he did when I had the opportunity. There is something quite satisfying about being a little bit more reckless and even fighting. It’s quite cathartic to just sort of randomly start hitting someone. It was fun kind of, letting all your rage go on the set. We had this big scene where I punch out some guys. It went fine and nobody was really hurt at all. But, at the end, I was like doing this thing where I was hitting myself in the arm, sort of pumping myself up. They cut it out of the movie, but I punched myself so hard that I was in a lot of pain for the rest of the shoot. It was the most stupid thing I’ve ever done.”

He’s felt the pain before.

“I got beaten up by a lot of people when I was younger. I was a bit of an idiot, but I always thought the assaults were unprovoked. It was after I first started acting and I liked to behave like an actor, or how I thought an actor was supposed to be, and that apparently provoked a lot of people into hitting me.”

What he learned from Pierce Brosnan.
“We went out to dinner in a restaurant full of all these guys who looked like bankers or brokers. They didn’t recognize me, but they recognized Pierce. And he said, ‘Notice those people looking over?’ I’m sitting there getting more and more self-conscious, even though I didn’t realize they weren’t looking at me. Suddenly, Pierce got up and introduced himself to everybody in the restaurant. At first I was like, ‘What are you doing? You’re like completely insane.’ But it worked. Everybody just relaxed and stopped staring and you could tell they were going to go home and say, ‘Pierce is such a nice guy.’”

No problem with being compared to James Dean.
“I think he was like the most influential person for young guys, especially actors, in the last 50 years. So yeah, I mean, I’m not ashamed to say I am very much influenced by him.”

Facing up to the pressure of the box office.
“It’s like a kind of a monster thing. The more people think they know you, the more you’re identified with a certain kind of role. People always used to ask me about typecasting and I never had to really worry about it. You think people will judge you by your work. But the truth is, it’s about whether the film you’re in makes money or not. And if it’s not making money, they’re like, ‘Oh, he’s over.’”

His ultimate goal.
“You keep trying to make your name stand for something other than just like meaningless celebrity. It’s a difficult battle, but I think people like Johnny Depp have done that. He’s not judged by his public image, it’s just his acting that counts. To get to that place takes a lot of discipline and a lot of hiding.”

The Daily Telegraph Australia also posted the interview with Rob. Here is an excerpt:

In the blissful moment of privacy, the British heart-throb allowed himself his only extravagance since vampire saga Twilight brought him instant fame and fortune.

“I bought a really nice guitar. Like, a really nice guitar,” he says from London, where he is promoting his new film Remember Me.

“I’d been working all year pretty much without a break, then I’d gone back to LA and I’d been followed around all the time.

“I finally escaped from people and I drove past this guitar shop and I was just like ‘I need to remind myself why I’m doing this’.” Remember Me is 23-year-old Pattinson’s first film since Twilight. In a stroke of luck for the filmmakers, Pattinson had signed on before the Twilight phenomenon shot him to fame, giving the indie flick some unexpected extra star power.

How to tell if Edward *really* loves Bella (and if your BF/GF is bitten by you)

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Two little lovers sitting in a tree… Does helping you ditch class to climb trees count as “the extra mile?”

Okay, okay, I’ll admit it right up front: this post is based upon an article called “Dating Tips: 10 Signs He’s Smitten,” and yes, I know, that’s kind of pathetic.

But, this is an unusually perceptive list.

Plus, I’m reading through John Granger’s excellent book, Spotlight (for serious readers of the Twilight series; I will post a review later) right now, and didn’t want you to think I had forgotten you in the meantime.

Anyway, a lot of critics of Twilight sound like Jacob — wondering if Bella should have caught that TV show on “controlling, abusive teenage relationships.” They read about Bella being overwhelmed with love for Edward, but they don’t see how Edward is showing any real love in return for her.

So, here’s a 10 tips that help answer if your boyfriend, girlfriend, or vampire-of-destiny are really into you. And the article says, “If he’s done any of the following, there’s no question.” And how can you not trust Yahoo? So, here goes:

1. He talks you up to all his friends. If you’re meeting his friends for the first time and they already know your entire life history — not to mention your favorite movie, ice cream flavor, and guilty pleasure song — chances are he’s hooked on you, and has probably been suffering major harassment at the hands of his buddies in the name of love. (Yeah, he’s totally whipped.)

Edward talks at great length with his family about Bella in Midnight Sun. Of course, the discussion doesn’t go particularly well, but that’s besides the point. Bella is Edward’s life now and he thinks and talks of little else.

2. He enjoys doing the most mundane activities with you. Laundry. Running errands. Napping. Shoe shopping. Congratulations, you’re the most boring couple ever. (Kidding!) But when he acts like the most routine, everyday activities are confetti-filled barrels of fun — because you’re doing them together — there’s definitely something there.

For Edward, this includes helping her cook food (which disgusts him, but he does it anyway), driving Bella to school, sitting with her at lunch time, waiting out her sentence with her inside her small and humble home, and of course the main one: watching over her while she sleeps. And he is never anything but fascinated by that/her.

3. He’d rather talk to you than watch the latest episode of “24″… at least for now. If he shuts down his BlackBerry, Xbox, or most recently scheduled World of Warcraft raid so that he can give you his undivided attention, don’t doubt his devotion. Most women would kill to command that sort of attention at later points in their relationships.

Edward puts off hunting/eating, piano playing, reading, writing in his journals, etc., in order to be with Bella, hanging on her every word, breath, and expression to cross her face.

4. He’s not afraid to say, “I love you.” In fact, he willingly says it in front of both friends and family, and doesn’t balk at PDAs either.

Edward tells Bella of his love frequently, regularly and passionately — and kisses her in front of his whole family — without embarrassment. W-o-w.

5. He misses you. Always. He texts and/or emails regularly to say that he was “thinking about you” or “just wanted to say hi.” Even a “hey, what’s up?” speaks to the depths of the pain he feels when you’re not around. And if he can’t let a day go by without a phone chat? You’re gonna have a tough time getting rid of this one.

“Be safe.” “Take care of my heart — I’ve left it with you.” When he decides to not hunt any further away than absolutely necessary — even Rosalie knows that it terrifies him to be away from Bella — that showed real commitment.

6. He takes it for granted that you have a future together. He says “we” instead of “I” and talks about your future together as if it’s a given. “When you meet my sister you’ll see what I mean” or “My birthday was boring this year. We’ll have to do something fun next year.” He may not have mentioned marriage, but he’s definitely thinking long-term.

Edward tells Bella, simply, “You are my life now.” When Edward thinks long term relationship, he means very long term — like, eternity. And he definitely talks about marriage.

7. He goes the extra mile. He surprises you with candy buttons because he knows they’re your fave. He puts gas in your car or unloads the dishwasher, completely unsolicited. They’re not grand gestures, but he’s making an obvious attempt to do something special for you. Men and women speak different languages when it comes to romance, but when he does something nice for you without being asked, he’s trying. And that speaks volumes.

Too many to mention here (Fishing her car keys out of puddles. Carrying her to the nurse’s office. Getting her out of gym. And so forth.), though Edward does lean toward the “grand” side, like, missile-proof cars. Enormous diamonds. Eternal life.

8. He can’t get over how beautiful you are. If you keep catching him sneaking peeks at you from across the room, he’s totally a goner.

Edward tells Bella she’s beautiful about a zillion times (I counted), even though Bella accepts his compliments, like, twice. And he definitely does some sneaking to see Bella, for instance, constantly sneaking into everyone’s heads at school just to see her as much as possible.

9. He picks you over the boys. His friends are hitting up the local nightclub? Well… he’d rather spend the night in with you and your latest Netflix picks. They’re going to see his favorite basketball team? Well… hmm… lemme think about… what!? Of course I’d rather spend time with you, honey. Yes, he’s smitten.

In Midnight Sun, Edward seriously considers fighting his family over Bella. And he does (briefly), in New Moon.

10. He’s willing to be a total mush. As evidenced by the mixed CD he made for your “month-aversary,” complete with cutesy album title and hand-drawn cover art, and accompanied by a carefully chosen card containing five long paragraphs on why he’s grateful you’re a part of his life.

Ah, the CD. He even played the music himself. Feel free to swoon.

So, if there isn’t anyone in your life loving you, committed to you, treating you like this — learn to be more like that yourself. And, trust me, it will work out when the time is right.

What do you think of the list? Can you think of other examples with Edward and Bella? Does she do the same for him? Please comment below!
